Build an expression from your dice that equals an opponent die, and capture it.

- In class
- Pass and play. Pairs share one device. Each player has six dice: D4, D6, D8, D10, D12 and D20.
A ten-minute starter
- Show about 2 minTwo attacks. Strength: one of your dice captures one of theirs that shows the same or less. Mind: two or more of your dice make their number exactly with +, −, × and ÷ and brackets, such as 3 × 6 = 18. Every die you attack with is rolled again.
- Play about 6 minPairs play pass and play. Stop after six minutes, even if nobody has won.
- Talk about 2 minAsk each pair for their best Mind attack. Which dice did it use, and what did they roll next?
Questions to ask the class
- Their die shows 18. You have 3, 4 and 6. Find two Mind attacks.Listen for: 3 × 6, and 4 × 3 + 6.
- Is 7 ÷ 2 an attack?Listen for: No. The answer must be a whole number, and 7 ÷ 2 is 3.5.
- Every die you attack with is rolled again. When is that a bad trade?Listen for: When you spend your best numbers and they come back low.
A common mistake
Forgetting that × and ÷ come before + and −, so 2 + 3 × 4 is 14, not 20.
How to help: The builder shows the value of the attack as it grows. Ask them to add brackets: (2 + 3) × 4 = 20.
Assign it
On the coach dashboard, choose your class under Cohorts. In Assign practice, pick Maths Warriors and the drill Reach the target or Defend, add a due date if you want one, then press Assign. Students find it on their Train page.
The drills are puzzles from real positions. Start with Reach the target; Defend asks for the safe move.
Results show on the dashboard by student and by game once the server has checked them.
