- In class
- Against the computer. One device each. Choose Lower Division: 3 seeds a pit. You go first.
A ten-minute starter
- Show about 2 minDraw two rows of 6 pits with a store at each player's right-hand end. Lift the seeds from one of your pits and drop one in each next place, counter-clockwise, skipping the other player's store.
- Play about 6 minStudents play the computer at Lower Division. Before each move, point at a pit to see where its last seed will land.
- Talk about 2 minAsk: how did you get another turn? When did you capture?
Questions to ask the class
- Your pit 4 has 3 seeds. Where does the last one land?Listen for: In your store (pit 5, pit 6, store), so you go again.
- When do you get another turn?Listen for: When your last seed lands in your own store.
- When do you capture?Listen for: When your last seed lands in an empty pit on your side and the pit across has seeds.
A common mistake
Counting the pit you lift from as the first place a seed goes.
How to help: Seeds start in the next place. Ask them to count aloud from the next pit. Pointing at a pit numbers each place a seed will drop before you sow.
Assign it
On the coach dashboard, choose your class under Cohorts. In Assign practice, pick Seed Circle and the drill Seed Circle, add a due date if you want one, then press Assign. Students find it on their Train page.
It opens against the computer. Ask students to start at Lower Division.
Wins against the computer show under By game, as each student's device reported them. Pass-and-play games do not show.
